The MAPAMA (Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment), through the Biodiversity Foundation, has launched a summer campaign to promote the involvement of beach bars in the conservation of our coastline.
Thus, adherence to a Decalogue of Good Practices and obtaining a badge allows these popular beach establishments to participate in the “Responsible Beach Bar Awards”, which will recognize their work in favor of the sustainability of the Spanish coast, where they carry out their hospitality activity.
The addition to this decalogue implies, among other actions, maintaining the cleanliness of the facilities and the space occupied on the beach, promoting their correct use among the public, minimising water and energy consumption, using recyclable packaging, marketing organic or local products and collaborating with the Administrations in the conservation of the coastline.
For the moment, more than 200 beach bars have already joined this code of good practice along the length and breadth of the Spanish coast.
RESPONSIBLE BEACH BARS AWARDS
At the same time, the call for the first edition of the “Responsible Beach Bars Awards” has been launched, to recognize the work carried out in this regard by beach establishments that adhere to the decalogue, as well as the environmental initiatives that they promote in the future to improve it.
Until 15 September, those beach food and drink vendors who obtain the “Responsible Chiringuito” badge will be able to participate in the awards in any of its two categories: “Developed Initiatives” and “Ideas”, for actions that they have already carried out or are going to carry out in favour of sustainability.
The economic endowment of the awards amounts to a total of 24,000 euros, distributed in a maximum of three prizes per category: a first endowed with 6,000 euros, a second prize of 4,000 euros and a third prize (2,000 euros).
