Environmental volunteering in the Cantabrian dune system

The Cambera Association, in collaboration with the Manucas Association, has continued with the program of volunteer actions for the restoration of the dune system of Merón Beach, in San Vicente de la Barquera, within the Oyambre Natural Park and in the Escudo River as it passes through the town of Roiz.

It is a set of activities within the framework of the “Beaches, Volunteering and Land Stewardship Program” of the Biodiversity Foundation, which have included a day of planting species native to the dune flora – the barrón, the sea grass, the sea thistle and the carnation – in order to strengthen the system while preventing the expansion of non-native species.

On the other hand, actions have been carried out aimed at the eradication of exotic flora, especially humagón and evening primrose, so that the problems posed by these invasive species in the dune systems of Cantabria are made known. On the other hand, an inspection has been carried out on the Escudo River using scientific methodology to check the quality of the water and the riparian forest.
