In October 2007, the Biodiversity Foundation launched the Land Stewardship Platform in order to provide support to the land stewardship collective. Through this initiative, a meeting space was created for all the networks and custodian entities, providing support and encouraging them to continue working and participating in this biodiversity and landscape conservation strategy.
At the same time, a website, www.custodia-territorio.es, was also developed, aimed at the agents involved in land stewardship as well as users interested in this philosophy and management tool. This portal has become a dynamic and participatory instrument, a space for disseminating the development and importance of stewardship initiatives in Spain.
Between 28 September and 7 October, the European Land Stewardship Week is being held, an initiative promoted by the Xarxa de Custòdia del Territori, (Land Stewardship Network) and which is part of the European Landlife project (LIFE10 INF/ES/540), supported by the Biodiversity Foundation within the framework of its collaboration with other entities at an international level.
Within the framework of this initiative, two inventories of Land Stewardship initiatives have been carried out, which reflect the degree of implementation of land stewardship throughout the State and its evolution, registering in 2010 more than 1,300 stewardship agreements and 130 organizations involved. It is expected that by the end of the year the third inventory will be completed, which will act as a documentary fund for the exchange of initiatives and experiences, as well as for the dissemination of the actions carried out.
