The Museum of the National Library of Spain (BNE) has recently inaugurated the exhibition “From Natural History to Biodiversity: a book passage”, an exhibition that offers visitors a tour of some of the most important treatises on Natural Sciences of all time preserved in the BNE: from medieval copies of the classics to the handbooks of the nineteenth century, in which the foundations of the most current studies are laid.
At the same time, and complementing this activity, an extensive and varied programme of activities will take place, which will take place in the Hall of the Muses of the BNE Museum until 30 January 2011.
In this sense, the Biodiversity Foundation will collaborate with the BNE to bring knowledge of biodiversity closer to citizens, as part of its commitment to the celebration of the International Year of Biodiversity.
Thus, in collaboration with the Jane Goodall Institute Spain, it will bring the Biodiverciudad program to the Library. It is an initiative that teaches basic aspects of urban biodiversity in an entertaining and fun way to children. The little ones will be able to explore and learn, having a greater sensitivity to people and the environment. These workshops will be held, upon registration, on November 23 and 30, and December 18 and 19.
It is worth highlighting the projection of audiovisual material provided by the Biodiversity Foundation: “Biodiario”, which are informative pieces on ecology, environment and biodiversity; “Transhumant Footprints, Transhumance in Spain”, ten short films that analyse this practice in different areas of our country; or “Discovery of animal behavior”, informative pieces of scientific work carried out by researchers in the field of ethology.
Admission and participation in these and other activities is free of charge. Some require prior registration, which can be processed in www.bne.es.
