The Spanish Wetlands Centre (CEHUM) organises this activity, which is carried out within the framework of the 39th edition of Iberflora.
Chaired by Vicente Peris, director of the Iberflora Fair; Miguel Delibes de Castro, researcher at the Spanish National Research Council and trustee of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, and María José Viñals, director of CEHUM, the Conference on ecological restoration of wetlands will take place on October 20 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Joaquín Rodrigo Room of the Feria de Valencia.
Experts from different countries will meet there to analyse the possibilities of action offered by both bioengineering and ecological restoration, as well as the new tools that are being used in the preservation of wetlands.
The conference is aimed especially at professionals from companies that are dedicated to landscape and environmental management, technicians linked to public works, teachers and students.
Ecological restoration is an area of knowledge that refers to those techniques that are currently booming, an area in which science and technology are constantly generating new knowledge, with an eye on their applications.
Spanish wetlands boast the greatest variety and richness within Europe, while withstanding multiple threats and aggressions: in fact, they are among the most threatened ecosystems in the European Union. In this sense, it should be noted that, in Spain, during the last 50 years, approximately 60 percent of the total waterlogged area has disappeared.
The Spanish Wetlands Centre (CEHUM) is an initiative of the Biodiversity Foundation in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Valencia and the City Council of Gandia, which arises from the need to create a reference centre, at national and international level, that allows the development of actions for the sustainable conservation of Spanish wetlands.
