A book on the biodiversity of the Somiedo Natural Park is published

The director of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Ana Leiva, attended on Tuesday, December 14, the presentation of the publication ‘Fungal Biodiversity of the Somiedo Natural Park’, which took place in the Assembly Hall of the Reception and Interpretation Center of the Somiedo Natural Park. located in Pola de Somiedo, Asturias.

In addition to the authors of the book, Enrique Rubio, Manuel Miranda, Jesús Linde and Juan Antonio Sánchez, the mayor of the City of Somiedo, Berlamino Fernández Fervienza, together with Ángel Moraleda, from the HC Energía Foundation, and José Félix García Gaona, general director of Biodiversity and Landscape of the Principality of Asturias, also took part in the presentation ceremony.

The product of 13 years of meticulous and professional work carried out by its researchers, this dissemination work makes available to all its readers an extensive mycological sample of the Somiedo Natural Park, which includes 17 varieties present in the Iberian provisional list of threatened fungal species.

Written with scientific rigour, the texts are accompanied by striking photographs of the species studied and offer a first and extensive fungal catalogue of an area as representative of Asturian biodiversity as the Somiedo Natural Park. In total, the authors have catalogued 1,380 different species of fungi in this book, which makes Somiedo the most studied Spanish protected natural area from a fungal point of view.
