It is part of the “Green Employment Pathways” project developed by the Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE) through the Empleaverde Program of the Biodiversity Foundation, with the support of the European Social Fund, and with the collaboration of the Provincial Councils of Cádiz, Jaén and Toledo.
With a prologue by the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, the publication “Sustainable development and employment on greenways” addresses opportunities and good practices in the sector. Its more than one hundred pages aim to show a good number of practical and proven experiences in greenway management. A management that is undoubtedly contributing to rural development and the generation of employment in the regions in which the greenways are inserted, as well as to the respectful approach of citizens to the natural spaces they cross.
The Directorate of Environmental Activities and Greenways of the FFE, the team that drafted the book, has made a selection of good practices in the development of greenways that encourage the settlement of rural populations in the territory and, with it, productive diversification and care for the environment.
In this way, this publication includes successful experiences of rural job creation from public investment, cases that illustrate the opportunity represented by the adaptation of the old stations to accommodate new ecotourism services managed by local entrepreneurs, SMEs and micro-SMEs, and many other specific examples of entrepreneurs whose activity is expressly linked to greenways.
With this, it is intended that this material can serve as a reference to follow in other similar initiatives that are launched in the future, since it should be remembered that the activities developed within the framework of the “Green Employment Routes” project aim to improve employment and the sustainability of the actions developed around the Spanish Greenways.
The ultimate objective of this publication, which is part of a free action co-financed by the European Social Fund, is to serve as an effective tool for the promotion of initiatives that contribute to the socio-economic maintenance of the rural population, the creation of green jobs and the preservation of biodiversity through the sustainable management of greenways. throughout Spain.
