The Secretary of State for Climate Change, Teresa Ribera, has presented the BIODIVERSIA Platform, a virtual space to inform citizens of the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity.
The Biodiversia Platform, promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation, has the support of the Avanza Plan of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, and it complies with the public participation provided for in the Natural Heritage and Biodiversity Law and its regulatory development through the Inventory and the INSPIRE Directive. using Information Technologies.
The development of the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity provides for the creation of mechanisms to make available and value information from other unofficial sources to be included in the Inventory. The Biodiversia Platform offers this possibility through its portal, which provides citizens with all the official information contained in it, as well as the possibility of interacting with amateur users, experts and managers.
Biodiversia allows anyone to integrate their social network and quickly and easily consult the official information of the Inventory, through the Biomap cartographic viewer, based on Google Maps technology. Biomap makes it possible to visualise the official cartography of the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity at the national level, presenting the main information in different cartographic layers, the number of which will be increased as each of its components is completed; Their visualization can be done by thematic resource and general geographical distribution area or, in detail, over a specific territorial space.
Internet users registered with Biodiversia will be able to access the different sections of the Platform: among them, a section of outstanding news related to natural heritage and biodiversity, a library of electronic resources on aspects related to the Inventory (to be consulted or downloaded) and a multimedia site that offers images, videos and sounds associated with natural resources.
Biodiversia also provides a Wiki space that allows all interested parties to contribute their own content in the form of articles, to create a collaborative database on natural heritage and biodiversity.
In this context, users can contribute their own content related to any aspect of interest related to natural resources, while participating and interacting in the different discussion forums and working groups that will be generated with the dynamism of these social networks.
These actions for the creation of digital content by the public sector promote the use of information technologies and contribute to establishing a framework for cooperation with the digital content industry, based on the widest dissemination of public information.
