The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, opened, on Friday, May 27, the sessions of the I Galician Congress of Sustainability and Construction, together with the dean of the College of Architects of Galicia (COAG), Jorge Duarte Vázquez, and the president of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, Salvador Fernández Moreda. The I Galician Awards for Sustainable Architecture were also presented at the event.
This meeting is one of the actions of the “Ecoinnova construction” project of the Official College of Architects of Galicia, which has the support of the FB, within the framework of the Empleaverde Program, co-financed by the European Social Fund, and the collaboration of the Provincial Council of A Coruña.
The COAG has launched “Eco-innovation and sustainability in the construction of housing in Galicia. Ecoinnova construction” as an R+D+i initiative that seeks to incorporate the philosophy and practice of sustainability into the regular work of professionals in the sector.
The aim is to adapt the sector to new environmental regulations and promote creativity and new ideas that give added value to construction. It is also a meeting point for the exchange of opinions and knowledge around eco-innovation, promoting commitment to the application of sustainability and the development of environmental technologies among architecture and construction professionals.
The goal is to change the construction model. This requires building differently and, in particular, with a focus on the sustainable rehabilitation of buildings. This will create and maintain jobs in a weakened sector and also build more energy-efficient, green and healthy housing. In this context, the adaptation of economic activities to the environmental requirements of current regulations will also be promoted.
