The company, based in Lastras de Cuéllar (Segovia), is dedicated to packaging and distributing organic food, generating employment, resources, quality of life and hopes for the future, while promoting respect for the environment and helping to fix population in rural areas.

The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, met on Friday, July 22, in Lastras de Cuéllar (Segovia), with the owners of the company Ecomanjar to learn first-hand about the initiative that was runner-up in the Biodiversity Foundation Award in the ‘Entrepreneurs’ category.

The company has 35 hectares on the Castilian plateau where it grows, in a certified organic way, wheat, oats, sunflower, garlic, chickpeas and potatoes. In addition, it has facilities for the conservation, packaging and distribution of its organically produced products.

Ecomanjar is a small family business, which has obtained recognition from the Biodiversity Foundation for generating employment, resources and quality of life, while promoting respect for the environment and contributing to fixing population in rural areas.

They were enterprising when they converted their agricultural production into organic farming crops in 2000, making certified organic products available to consumers and managing to revalue local productions. Ecomanjar carries out techniques that contribute to maintaining ecosystems, reducing pollution, and promoting biodiversity, respecting nature’s own mechanisms for the control of pests and diseases in crops.
