On November 27, the political commentator Thom Hartmann gave a keynote lecture in Madrid, at the National Museum of Natural Sciences. Hartmann is the author of more than twenty award-winning books such as the Project Censored Award that have made it to The New York Times bestseller lists.
His book “The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight” inspired the Leonardo DiCaprio-produced film “The 11th Hour,” which offers the testimony of experts, including Hartmann himself, about the time left to act on behalf of the planet.
Hartmann – director of the most popular progressive radio program in the United States – tries to show how human beings have already faced the imminent end of other cultures, sometimes successfully (through behavioral changes that allowed them to survive) and, at other times, paying for defeat with extinction. Hartmann proposes exploring how we can find a way out of the planetary crisis and evolve towards a culture that really works for everyone.
The project Action in the penultimate hour: Campus Tour “The 11th hour” and meeting with its protagonists, in which this conference is framed, is an initiative of the Earth Foundation, which has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, to exhibit this film on university campuses and in Spanish scientific dissemination institutions.
The documentary “La Hora 11” talks about the impact of human activity on ecosystems, while proposing actions that can help change this trajectory. The film collects the testimony of experts from different fields of knowledge, committed to safeguarding our environment. This project is being developed in Spain thanks to the Earth Foundation and the Biodiversity Foundation.
