The registration period for the I Iberian Congress on the Reintroduction of Wild Species, which will be held from November 5 to 9 in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, is now open. Organized by the Jerez Zoo, a center dependent on the City of Jerez, it has the collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation, a public foundation of the Government of Spain, under the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, and the University of Cádiz.
This meeting will be dedicated to the presentation of works related to the biology and ecology of the reintroduction of wild species into the wild, and aims to be a place for debate on the benefits and weaknesses of this type of program.
The aim of the congress is to raise awareness of the reintroduction policy carried out by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), as well as to show the main programmes currently being carried out in Spain and Portugal. It also aims to present the legal aspects and policies used to carry out reintroductions, population reinforcements and translocations, as well as to analyse the ecological, economic and legal repercussions.
The congress will be approached from fields as different as biology, ecology, population dynamics, legal regulations and social and veterinary aspects.
