The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, participated today in the inauguration of the International Conference on Mediterranean Wetland Management Tools, which will take place until October 29, in Gandía, Valencia.

The conference, in whose organization the Biodiversity Foundation collaborates through the Spanish Wetlands Center (CEHUM), brings together some of the main national and international experts in wetlands, in order to learn about and disseminate the different existing management tools and in order to achieve better planning and management of these spaces.

To achieve this objective, it is intended that this meeting will serve as a forum for the dissemination of the work carried out and the results obtained by specialized researchers, including the research group of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).

The International Conference on Mediterranean Wetland Management Tools will discuss crucial issues for the conservation of wetlands, such as the limits that can be established to make their public use compatible with the protection of nature, the management model they need or how to know the real state of health of Mediterranean wetlands.

In this sense, the conference is aimed at different social actors related to these unique spaces, from researchers, professors and university students to technicians and managers of national and foreign wetlands, who can benefit from the transfer of knowledge and experiences.

The Biodiversity Foundation has been collaborating with the Universitat Politècnica de València, the Universitat de València and the City Council of Gandía in the conservation of wetlands, through the CEHUM. This centre was born from the need to achieve an adequate degree of knowledge about the importance of wetlands, as well as the knowledge and conservation of their values and functions.
