The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of the Environment and IBERDROLA Renovables have decided to participate in the documentary Earth-The Movie of Our Planet, produced by the BBC, within the framework of the commitment of both entities to the environment and sustainable development. This ambitious project of British public television has had a budget of 40 million euros and has required more than five years of work.

The film, directed by Alistair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, will be released worldwide on 22 September during the 55th edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival, where it will be part of the Official Selection, although out of competition. This is the first time that a nature documentary participates in the Official Section of this event. The film has been shot in around 200 locations by 40 specialized teams that have used the most avant-garde technical means.

The aim of the film, whose premiere in Spain is being made by the Biodiversity Foundation and IBERDROLA Renovables, is to show a vision of the planet based on the path of the sun during the cycle of a year, emphasising the diversity of wildlife, climate and landscape through three protagonists: the polar bear, the African elephant and the humpback whale. It is the best documentary produced by the BBC in its history.

Tierra is part of a global project of the same name that includes, in addition to the aforementioned film, initiatives through the Internet, educational content, environmental projects, events and publications.
