The Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) will continue to work together to ensure that cities lead the fight against climate change. Both parties have signed a new collaboration agreement whose main actions will be carried out through the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate of the FEMP.
The agreement renews the framework collaboration agreement signed in November 2004 between the Ministry and the Federation, and establishes the actions to be carried out during this year within the framework of the activity carried out by the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate. The actions contemplated will be financed with a budget item of 1.5 million euros, included in the 2008 General State Budget.
One of the objectives of this initiative is to get as many municipalities as possible to participate in the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate. To this end, the FEMP has carried out a dissemination campaign in the media to publicise the existence of the Network, while addressing all the City Councils not yet integrated to join.
