The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, a public foundation of the Government of Spain, under the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Ana Leiva, today attended the inauguration of the conference “The development of the regulations of the Environmental Responsibility Law”, together with the Technical General Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Alicia Camacho.

The Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs is organising this technical conference on the Regulation of the Environmental Liability Law in order to give continuity to the process that began in December 2007. Thus, this meeting is a further step in the process that began with the presentation of a preliminary working document for the preparation of the regulations of the Environmental Liability Law, which was made available to the public and the competent public administrations. This document has been the subject of a wide range of comments and suggestions, many of which generated a rich public debate at the conferences that the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs organized together with the Biodiversity Foundation, at the headquarters of this institution in Seville, in February 2008.

This new event offers a meeting point for public administrations with environmental competences, environmental organisations, companies, insurance companies and the scientific community to talk openly about the challenges posed by the implementation of the law such as the analysis of environmental risks and the calculation of the coverage of the financial guarantee.
