The Biodiversity Foundation, a public foundation of the Government of Spain, under the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) participates in the 68th edition of the Madrid Book Fair, which is held in the Retiro Park from May 29 to June 14. The Foundation will be represented at the MARM booths, located at numbers 8 and 9 of the Paseo de Coches in the Madrid park. There you can consult the publications published by the Foundation.
In addition, the Biodiversity Foundation will participate in the Children’s and Youth Pavilion “Constellation Book”, where it aims to sensitize and raise awareness among the little ones about the need to conserve the environment that surrounds them. The Foundation has prepared different activities that will take place in this space during the days in which this fair takes place to disseminate the values of biodiversity among the participants, focusing on the knowledge of the youngest of the Iberian species in danger of extinction.
Specifically, on May 29 and June 5 at 7:30 p.m., and on June 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 1:30 p.m., the characters of BioDíver, a section of the Biodiversity Foundation’s website dedicated to children. The lynx “Mayú”, the bear “Robin” and the capercaillie “Paquito” will visit the “Constellation Book” Pavilion to play with all the children who come to this space.
Accompanied by these animals, the little ones will be able to learn about the problems of the most endangered species in our country through the game “Countdown 2010”. It is a group dynamic, similar to the popular game of the goose, in which they will learn to contribute to conserving and caring for the environment. Thus, the little ones have fun on a giant board on which endangered species are represented. In this activity they will have to help save endangered animals and plants, avoid the dangers that lie in wait for them and reach the year 2010 with all the species saved. In addition to the lynx, the capercaillie and the brown bear, they will find other characters, representing endangered species, such as the Balearic toad or ferreret, the Iberian wolf, the imperial eagle and the sea turtle. This pastime allows the little ones to learn about the problems of the most endangered fauna and flora in our country.
Participants in the games organized by the Biodiversity Foundation will be given educational material to learn more about these endangered species, what are the threats they face and how they can contribute to their conservation.
