The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, a public foundation of the Government of Spain, under the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Ana Leiva, visited today in Mallorca the headquarters of the Foundation for the Conservation of the Black Vulture and the Mediterranean Wildlife Foundation. During her visit, Ana Leiva was able to learn first-hand about the development of the local, national and international projects carried out by these organizations.

Since 2004, the Biodiversity Foundation has supported different projects carried out by the Black Vulture Foundation. One of the initiatives in which they are working together is the so-called “Land stewardship actions with an agrotourism network in the Sierra de Tramontana (Mallorca)”. The project aims to create a network of agrotourism establishments committed to land stewardship, to improve the quality of the agrotourism offer for the benefit of the natural environment and as a tool for rural and sustainable development of the Sierra de Tramontana.

Likewise, these entities collaborate in the project “Son Pons: A zoological nucleus for the recovery of vultures in Europe”, whose main objective is to improve the conservation status of populations of this species in Mallorca, Spain and Europe. Specifically, it is intended to increase social awareness about vulture conservation through the improvement and development of the BVCF Educational Program (Fund for the Conservation of the Black Vulture) in the center of Son Pons, which is aimed at schoolchildren, Mallorcan citizens, tourists and university students. Likewise, work is being done to ensure the management and improve the maintenance of the zoological nucleus.

The fight against poison is another of the actions shared by both entities. In this sense, the Biodiversity Foundation participates in the project “SOS Veneno. Actions against the use of poison in Spain and Portugal. Contribution to the National Strategy against Poison and the Antidote Program of Spain and Portugal”.
