The 12th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 12), to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 6 to 17 November, will have as its main focus the definition of the future climate change regime and the commitments of the different Parties beyond the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol. which ends in 2012.
Another objective for this COP is to reach an agreement that will allow the implementation of the five-year Work Programme on the impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change. This issue is key to further progress in this process and to the success of COP 12 itself.
Spain, like the EU, considers that this Programme should focus on helping all parties to share scientific and technical knowledge on the regional and local impacts, vulnerabilities and risks associated with different levels of climate change, as well as to contribute to the understanding by Parties of what constitutes dangerous climate change. and integrating climate risks into existing plans, policies and strategies.
