The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, has signed a framework agreement in Nairobi with the executive director of UNEP, Hachim Steiner, to create a trust fund aimed at jointly managing Spanish contributions to the United Nations organization for major environmental issues.

This agreement means equipping itself with a tool that allows donor countries to participate in the design of actions and the monitoring of the results of the Spanish contribution. The fund will allow the channelling of resources from any administration as well as from any public or private entity.

Under this agreement, the presence of Spanish officials in UNEP will be reinforced. Thus, the creation of a position of Environmental Counsellor at the Spanish Embassy in Nairobi is already planned.
