The Biodiversity Foundation, a public foundation of the Government of Spain, under the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, has participated today in different activities and meetings for the search for solutions and the exchange of ideas within the framework of the IUCN World Conservation Union Congress.
Thus, the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, has held meetings with The Nature Conservancy, the Bolivian NGO Nativa and AVINA to exchange experiences and ideas and look for new ways of collaboration for the future.
Likewise, and also framed in the IUCN World Conservation Union Congress, the director of the Department of Studies and Projects of the Biodiversity Foundation, Germán Alonso, has participated in the workshop “Objective: to improve Spanish protected areas to contribute effectively to the conservation of our common heritage. Will you join?”, organized by EUROPARC – Spain.
The director of the Studies and Projects department explained the collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation in the conservation projects of EUROPARC-Spain. The ultimate goal of these initiatives is to improve access to information, the effectiveness of management in protected natural areas and to encourage the exchange of good conservation practices.
Subsequently, the director of the Department of Studies and Projects, presented at a press conference the results of the project “Culmination of the knowledge of the management elements for the formal protection at the maritime-terrestrial level of Punta de la Móra-Tamarit”, developed by DEPANA, the League for the Defense of Natural Heritage, with the collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation.
This project, which began in 2005, consists of the creation of an integrated maritime-terrestrial coastal management area on the coasts of Punta de la Móra (Tarragona) with the aim of protecting the proposed area through its declaration as a nature reserve by initiating the relevant administrative procedures.
