The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, has presented during the Plenary of the National Climate Council, the draft of the National Plan for Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change, coinciding with the first anniversary of the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol.
All sectors involved in the fight against climate change are represented in the National Climate Council: ministries, city councils, autonomous communities, universities, companies, trade unions, environmental organisations and consumer and user associations.
The National Adaptation Plan is presented as a general framework of reference for the impact assessment, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change activities that will be carried out in Spain over the next few years, since, due to its geographical location and socio-economic characteristics, our country is very vulnerable.
This Plan aims to improve the capacities to deal with the impacts that the new climate scenarios will cause in different areas, such as the way of life, the productivity of the economy or the maintenance of ecosystems. To this end, the Plan is conceived as a continuous and cumulative process of generating scientific knowledge, and of creating and strengthening projects and initiatives to apply them, with the participation of all the agents involved in the different sectors or systems.
