The Ministry of the Environment will restore areas that suffered forest fires last summer

The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, has authorised various actions in areas that suffered forest fires last summer aimed at the restoration of the affected forest mass and the recovery of the ecological values that these areas had before the disasters.

The investment planned for the development of these actions, declared an emergency and which will be carried out in the communities of Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Galicia, amounts to 9,470,000 euros. The works have been entrusted to the public company TRAGSA.

The planned actions include the elimination of burnt waste, comprehensive hydrological-forestry and soil conservation plans, reforestation of vegetation cover, phytosanitary control, cleaning of the forest, repair of infrastructures and drafting of environmental and landscape projects and forest hydrological restoration. These works also pursue preventive purposes, since these actions will facilitate the cleaning and maintenance of these areas.

In Castilla-La Mancha, these actions will be carried out in the municipalities of the province of Guadalajara of Riba de Saélices, Ablanque, Anguita, Anquela del Ducado, Ciruelos del Pinar, Cobeta, Luzón, Maranchon, Mazarete and Selas, in an area of 12,874 hectares, of which 10,906 are wooded. The planned investment in this community is 3,980,000 euros.

In Extremadura, the municipalities in which these works will be undertaken are Navalvillar de Ibor, Castañar de Ibor, Robledollano, Alía, Cañamero, Guadalupe and Valdecaballeros, with an area of 12,242 hectares, of which 5,639 are wooded. The investment will also amount to 3,980,000 euros.

Finally, in Galicia the actions will be carried out in Pazos de Borbén, Ponteareas, Mos and Laza, with an area of 4,553 hectares, of which 3,393 are wooded. The investment will amount to 1,151,000 euros.
