Corcho, one of the two Iberian lynx cubs that Esperanza gave birth to on April 15 at the El Acebuche Captive Breeding Center, died suddenly on Sunday. The necropsy carried out on the body has not yielded conclusive results, so we will have to wait for those of the analytical tests to know the causes.
Since January 2004, the number of lynxes participating in the Iberian Lynx Captive Breeding Programme has increased from 4 to 21, of which 5 have been born in captivity at the El Acebuche facilities. The program has achieved the reproduction in captivity, for the first time internationally and for two consecutive years, of this species, which is in danger of extinction.
