The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona and the Minister of the Environment of the Government of Cantabria, José Ortega, signed today in Santander the collaboration agreement between the two Administrations for the execution of actions for the environmental recovery and conservation of banks and riverbeds of the Hirar River.
The area affected by the agreement has great landscape and environmental value, but requires actions to guarantee its conservation and allow global management to be undertaken in the territory. Specifically, a Híjar river park will be created, whose project will be drawn up by the Government of Cantabria and various actions will be carried out to condition channels and banks throughout the course of the river in the Community.
Thus, hydraulic and environmental adaptation works will be carried out on the Hikar River, to create a backbone of interconnected natural systems that provide protection to aquifers and biodiversity, freedom of movement to fauna and protect river valleys and rivers, improving aquatic ecosystems, reducing the danger of flooding and increasing their natural wealth.
