The Council of Ministers has authorized the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of the Environment, through the General Directorate of Water, and the University of Murcia to carry out a study of organic decontamination and agricultural reuse of treated wastewater in areas of the agri-food industry of the Region of Murcia.

The agreement aims to study new processes of organic decontamination of treated wastewater, in the tertiary treatment phase (filtration, UV radiation, osmosis, etc.), mainly from the agri-food industry, and characterization of them for use in agricultural irrigation of crops in the Vega Media and Baja of the Segura River in the Region of Murcia.

The agreement contemplates the creation of a Joint Monitoring and Control Commission, which will be made up of two members of the General Directorate of Water of the Ministry of the Environment and two members appointed by the University of Murcia. The Commission will meet once a month and whenever the urgency or importance of the matter to be dealt with so requires, at the request of any of the signatory parties.
