The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, and the Minister of Rural Affairs of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfredo Suárez, have presented the joint actions carried out by both Administrations in the field of hydrological-forestry planning and restoration, the fight against erosion, the use of forest biomass and the recovery of burned areas.

To these actions must be added those that were extraordinarily commissioned at the end of 2005 by the emergency procedure for the forest and environmental restoration of burned areas, which include measures for soil conservation and erosion containment, phytosanitary control and elimination of burned feet, recovery of fauna, support for natural regeneration and reforestation with leafy species. regeneration of those areas located on the banks of river channels and preventive actions against forest fires.

On the other hand, the Ministry will allocate almost 2 million euros in 2006 to the Galician Plan for the Use of Residual Forest Biomass, which in addition to its recovery, through energy use, constitutes an effective tool for the prevention of forest fires. For actions linked to fire prevention and sustainable forest management, the transfer from the Ministry will exceed 4.5 million euros.

The total investment of the Ministry of the Environment in Galicia for all these actions and projects will exceed 18 million euros, which together with the more than 12 million euros from EU funds will imply a public expenditure of more than 30 million euros.
