The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has held a conference at CONAMA to explain and publicize the development of the LIFE+ INDEMARES program, as well as to discuss the future of marine environmental conservation in our country.

The conference, inaugurated by the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Sonia Castañeda, featured three tables of speakers made up of a moderator and a panel of experts, and tried to answer different questions about marine conservation tools and their use. During his speech, Castañeda stressed that “INDEMARES has become the most important research and innovation project developed in Spain on marine conservation”.

A total of three tables have been held that have proposed a general review of the research carried out within the framework of the LIFE+INDEMARES project, while addressing the meaning and perspectives that a project of this magnitude represents for marine conservation.

Each table discussed issues related to marine conservation and all aspects related to the LIFE+ INDEMARES programme. Representatives of entities related to the field of marine conservation have participated, such as Víctor Díaz, researcher at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography or José Templado of the Spanish National Research Council.

Likewise, representatives of environmental NGOs and other associations related to sea professionals have also participated, such as Xavier Pastor (OCEANA), Coral García (WWF) and José Manuel Gil (National Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds).
