Adaptecca, a web platform on adaptation to climate change in Spain and promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment together with the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), has been the meeting point of a conference held at Caixa Forum, in Madrid.
The objective of this conference has been to promote the dissemination of the Adaptecca website and training in its use and management. In addition, a debate space was held in which options for dynamizing and improving the content and functionalities of the online platform were discussed. This is intended to achieve a multiplier effect, in which the participants in the conference act as amplifiers in their fields and networks of experts of said platform, thus adding more users.
The purpose of AdapteCCa is to create a common working space, serving as an instrument for the exchange of information and communication between all experts in the field of assessment of impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change. In this way, the website is intended to facilitate the coordination and transfer of knowledge and experiences between the different Spanish administrations, as well as between the scientific and technical community, planners and managers – both public and private – and other agents. The establishment of a multidirectional channel between all of them is one of the primary objectives of the platform.
This project is part of the activities of the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC), designed to achieve maximum synergy with the corresponding European Climate-Adapt platform.
The National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC) is the general framework of reference for the assessment of impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change in our country. AdapteCCa is framed under this umbrella, helping to strengthen the structure of the PNACC in its axis of mobilisation of actors and its pillar of coordination between administrations.
At the European level, the basic reference is the European Adaptation Strategy, whose fundamental pillar is the European Platform on Adaptation, Climate-Adapt, an initiative of the European Commission to promote access to and exchange of information on adaptation on the sectors where there are Community policies and on the frameworks and initiatives of the Member States in this field.
The national AdapteCCa platform has been designed taking into full consideration and seeking maximum synergy with the aforementioned European platform. In the conception and development of AdapteCCa, the European Commission and the European Environment Agency have an important role to play in maximising the complementarity between the two platforms.
