Prevents fires, protects biodiversity

Share on:

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) has drawn up a basic decalogue of prohibitions and recommendations that citizens should take into account to prevent the outbreak of forest fires. The MAGRAMA highlights the importance of observing this decalogue, since 95% of accidents are caused by human activities, either due to negligence and accidents, or intentionally.

In this way, the basic aspects, taking into account the motivations of the fires, could be:

1.     Do not throw cigarettes or matches on the ground.
2.     Do not light fires in the mountains in times of risk.
3.     If a burn is going to be made, request the appropriate authorization. In addition, it is advisable to take extreme precautions in its execution.
4.     In times of risk, do not use agricultural or forestry machinery that can generate fires.
5.     Comply with restrictions on access to forest areas in times of risk.
6.     Extreme caution should be exercised if fire is used in agricultural activities.
7.     If a fire is spotted, immediately notify 112 or the emergency telephone number of the corresponding Autonomous Community. Remember that safety is the most important factor, so you should never work alone.
8.     In times of risk, do not use tools that can generate sparks.
9.     Do not throw rubbish outside the authorised containers.
10.   Finally, remember that 95% of forest fires are due to human action, so we must put all our attention on avoiding them.
