The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment has been distinguished today with a commemorative certificate for being registered in the EMAS System, a European environmental management mechanism to which the Foundation has been a member since 2010. The director of the Foundation, Sonia Castañeda, has collected the distinction at an event held today in Madrid and in which a hundred companies have been distinguished.
The commemorative certificate is part of the recognition given to those organisations that have been adhered to the EMAS system for the last 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. The EMAS System (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a European Union regulation that recognises all those organisations that have an Environmental Management System verified by external audits. Adherence to this system is voluntary and in its implementation the organizations are committed to continuous improvement.
In the evaluation of the management of the EMAS system, the ecological footprint is taken into account through various parameters such as waste, water and paper consumption and the measures aimed at improving energy efficiency carried out by the different subscribing organisations.
