The Beaches, Rivers, Volunteering and Land Stewardship Programme of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, will develop different initiatives along the Spanish coast during the month of August.

Firstly, the Oxygen Foundation will carry out a campaign to raise awareness and citizen participation on marine litter, its minimisation, problems and collection. These actions will be carried out on the beaches of Valdearenas and Oyambre, in Cantabria, and on the beach of San Antolín, in Asturias, on August 27, 28 and 29.

For its part, the entity Ecoherencia will carry out a trail, interpreted by specialized monitors, on the beaches of Camposoto in San Fernando (Cádiz), and the beach at the mouth of the Guadalhorce (Malaga), on August 29.

During the walk, you will be able to learn about the environmental and cultural peculiarities of the environment, as well as carry out small actions aimed at getting to know and feel the space. Likewise, at the end of the day, the beach will be cleaned, and a collective sandcastle will be built.

Finally, on August 29 and 30, activities will be carried out on the banks of the Saja River (Cantabria), promoted by the Cambera Network Association. Its program includes the elimination of invasive exotic flora species (Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora), planting of riverside species and the dissemination of the results.

The Beaches, Rivers, Volunteering and Land Stewardship programme, which has been in place since 2012, has already mobilised nearly 60 organisations and more than 16,000 volunteers in past editions, enhancing the role of citizen action in the conservation of coastal and river ecosystems. In total, during 2015 38 projects will be carried out: 24 in rivers and 14 on beaches. These initiatives are being held through the work of 34 entities.
