Within the framework of the 2015 edition of the Beaches, Rivers, Volunteering and Land Stewardship Programme, almost 500 volunteers will carry out cleaning work on rivers and beaches in seven autonomous communities during the month of August.

In total, 8 entities will act during this month, the Fondo Natural Association in Aragon, the Association for the Conservation of Natural Ecosystems (CEN) and Grup Natura Freixe in Catalonia, ANSE in the Region of Murcia and the Association of Environmental Sciences (ACA) in Madrid. Around 120 volunteers will be mobilized in some of the rivers in these regions. For their part, some 360 volunteers mobilized by Ecoherencia in Andalusia and Fundación Oxygen in Cantabria and Asturias, will be in charge of cleaning beaches.

The Biodiversity Foundation encourages the involvement of citizens in the conservation of the coastline and the areas that make up the inter-community watersheds, constituting a network of volunteers mobilised by land stewardship entities. In this way, the work of these entities is valued and their work is promoted through this program in which a variety of activities are carried out for the conservation of the associated ecosystems, beaches and river basins.

Among the activities carried out are actions for the removal and elimination of marine litter, actions for the recovery of deteriorated areas, activities linked to sustainable uses carried out by hospitality establishments, or information, training and awareness activities to involve citizens in the conservation of rivers and beaches.
