The six Galician Biosphere Reserves are the geographical area in which the Centre for University Extension and Environmental Dissemination of Galicia-CEIDA is developing a project that aims to contribute to the conservation and knowledge of biodiversity in these territories, within an environmental participation programme. The program will allow the phenological monitoring of various indicator species of fauna and flora that inhabit these areas.

The initiative, beneficiary of the call for grants from the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment in 2015, aims to stimulate the participation of the local population and visitors to the Reserves in the Phenological Monitoring Program of the Spanish Network of Biosphere Reserves, consisting of the continuous study of the variations of the environment. of the ecological and behavioural changes of indicator species of animals and plants throughout the Peninsula.

Another of the objectives of the project is to innovate and make the dissemination of knowledge on biodiversity more accessible, in addition to establishing synergies of collaboration within the Network of Galician Biosphere Reserves. The initiative includes face-to-face activities for dynamization and training, highlighting an innovative open and free online training. All the actions are designed to create real spaces for participatory dialogue and exchange of knowledge between volunteers in the different Reserves around their biodiversity.

A proposal that seeks to improve knowledge about a set of species of fauna and flora thanks to a training and citizen participation program aimed at the inhabitants of these rural areas and their visitors, who will thus become potential informants about the rich biodiversity of the Galician Biosphere Reserves.
