The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment has joined the celebration of Europe Day today. A date that commemorates peace and unity of the European continent every May 9. At an information day held at the Casa de Fieras in the Retiro Park (Madrid), the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Sonia Castañeda, explained what the Empleaverde Programme consists of, the initiative of the Biodiversity Foundation for the promotion and improvement of employment, entrepreneurship and the environment. This program is co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) within the framework of the Operational Program Employment, Training and Education 2014-2020. During the event, explanatory brochures of the Empleaverde Program have been distributed and videos of it have been projected. A programme whose 2018 call for subsidies will allocate 8.9 million euros to entities that promote projects that promote the creation of employment and companies and the support of entrepreneurship, social innovation and the exchange of experiences within the framework of a green and blue economy. The activities of the Red emprendeverde, the initiative that the Biodiversity Foundation launched in 2011 within the framework of the Empleaverde Programme, also co-financed by the ESF, to promote the creation and consolidation of companies or new lines of business in activities related to the environment and channel investment towards sustainable economic activities, were also announced. In addition to the Biodiversity Foundation, nine other entities, including Action Against Hunger, the Red Cross, the ONCE Foundation and the Santa María La Real Foundation, have participated in this conference by publicizing the projects they are developing and that have European support or funding. Europe Day commemorates the declaration of Robert Schuman, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, who in a speech in Paris in 1950 set out his idea of a new form of political cooperation that would make a military conflict between European nations unthinkable.
