Introducing the Ecological Restoration Toolkit

Share on:

During the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity that is being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, the Director General of Biodiversity and Environmental Quality, Javier Cachón, has officially presented the Practical Guide to Ecological Restoration, which aims to be a tool for the implementation of the future State Strategy for Green Infrastructure, Connectivity and Ecological Restoration. This document arises from the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative, one of the important commitments that the Ministry for Ecological Transition has to promote the integration of biodiversity in the business sector.

As an example of an outstanding example of public-private collaboration that aims to advance in this direction, the work of the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative, coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation and which works with 22 large companies and important business and conservation entities to integrate biodiversity into the business sector, has been highlighted.

Since 2013, this initiative has sought to improve the consideration of biodiversity in business strategies and has served as a platform to highlight business examples that reflect this commitment. Likewise, this coalition has allowed collaboration in specific conservation projects, demonstrating that alliances between the company and the administration can lead to attractive formulas for both parties, which help to develop national commitments in the conservation of biodiversity.

In line with the main theme of the Conference, this Practical Guide to Ecological Restoration has been officially presented, which reflects the usefulness of the partnership between companies and the administration, to achieve consensual solutions to common problems. The document aspires to be a tool that contributes to the implementation of the future State Strategy for Green Infrastructure, and Ecological Connectivity and Restoration. As a collaborative effort and with the participation of more than 100 people, it aims to provide a methodology of ecological restoration for the restorations of natural capital in Spain.

The Business and Biodiversity Forum has brought together more than 300 representatives from the business world to support the paradigm shift towards a society that incorporates sustainability criteria into its economic and production model.
