Our headquarters hosts, from today until Wednesday, the second International Workshop within the framework of the LIFE ELCN (European Land Conservation Network) project. This project, led by the German NGO NABU, has eight partners from all over Europe, including the Foundation. It aims to establish a European network for the conservation of private spaces, analyse real experiences on conservation tools on private land and identify concrete guidelines and policies to support private conservation initiatives.
The workshop will focus on the evaluation of innovative tools and models for the conservation of private lands, the exchange of knowledge and experiences on these tools, the identification of legal and political obstacles to their application and the promotion of the conservation of private lands among the most relevant social agents.
In addition, the potential of conservation organizations and public administrations will be analyzed to identify those positive incentives that prioritize private owners in the conservation of nature on their lands. Finally, the best available techniques and good practices implemented at European and international level will be presented through working sessions and a field visit.
It is a space where we will highlight the importance of land stewardship as a tool for nature conservation in our country, which this year celebrates its 18th anniversary, with the Land Stewardship Platform being the meeting place for the almost 200 land stewardship entities in Spain.
Jointly organised by the Biodiversity Foundation, Eurosite and NABU, it will be attended by the European Commission, more than 15 speakers and 40 participants from 13 countries throughout Europe and beyond (USA and South Africa). This event is an excellent forum to lay the foundations of the fiscal and financial framework of land stewardship agreements and other public-private agreements for conservation.
