The 25 Years of Greenways Conference was held today in Seville, where the situation of Spanish greenways was discussed and common strategies were designed to consolidate the 125 existing greenways and launch new projects on some of the 5,000 km of railway lines that are still in disuse.
The conference, organised by the Spanish Railways Foundation, concluded with the signing of the Seville Manifesto, which includes the future strategies of the Spanish Greenways Programme. This signing took place at the Seville headquarters of the Biodiversity Foundation.
Since 2005, the Biodiversity Foundation has collaborated with the Spanish Railways Foundation. We are currently supporting the project “GREENWAYS & NATURA 2000 NETWORK: Dissemination of Protected Natural Areas and Geoparks through the State Network of Greenways”. The project seeks to integrate and value biodiversity in the surroundings of these routes, non-motorised itineraries.
