This September 27 we celebrate World Tourism Day which, in 2022, under the slogan “Rethinking tourism“, focuses on rethinking the growth of the sector, both in terms of scope and significance. This year, in addition to recognising the opportunities that tourism has generated, and continues to generate, around the world, it is intended to strengthen resilience by making great progress in transforming the sector so that it becomes a key driver of the green economy, the blue economy and the digital economy, without its growth being to the detriment of people or the planet.
The Biodiversity Foundation, through the Empleaverde Programme, co-financed by the European Social Fund, contributes to promoting sustainable tourism management, providing support to 38 training and support projects for some 6,700 entrepreneurs, for which it contributes a budget of 4.7 million euros. Four of these projects, which are under execution, are focused on sustainable tourism, and aim to promote the conservation of biodiversity through training, training and advice actions. These initiatives have an endowment of about 650,000 euros and are aimed at about 570 people.
The Cornucopia: sustainable and fair tourism project, managed by the entity Grupo Almería Formación, aims to train and train some 70 people from vulnerable groups in sustainable tourism to be specialist agents in this sector, thus contributing to promoting services directly related to the circular economy.
Likewise, the DezaCircular initiative of the City Council of Silleda, is specifically aimed at 75 unemployed people in rural areas of two Galician municipalities; Silleda and Vila de Cruces. The objective is to train and guide unemployed people in innovative services and actions aimed at creating opportunities in the field of the circular forest economy and the sustainable tourist use of the natural spaces of the area. To this end, 4 training courses will be carried out accompanied by 2 social innovation actions.
The project Promotion of rural tourism through the use of the endogenous resources of the territories, developed by the Association for Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility (ADR), aims to identify underused endogenous resources and value them within tourism linked to rural and nature spaces, to promote their rational use. To achieve this objective, different training actions will be carried out, in which up to 370 unemployed people from the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Murcia, Castilla – La Mancha, Castilla y León, and Madrid will be able to participate.
For its part, Intercostas II: Sustainable Coastal Tourism is presented as a continuation of the first edition of this project that aims to respond to several problems and needs detected related to the negative effects that uncontrolled tourism leaves in the natural spaces of the Galician and Andalusian coast. This trend of increased tourism in rural and natural areas could become a serious problem if not properly managed.
The initiative developed by Asociación AMICOS, has as its main objective to train 45 people who are unemployed. Specifically, it is aimed at people with difficulties in social and labour insertion so that they can carry out the design and management of sustainable and inclusive tourism products and services linked to the enhancement of the Natura 2000 Network, so that new blue employment opportunities can be generated.
Finally, the Emprendeverde Network (REV) of the Biodiversity Foundation organizes, among other actions, a webinar on sustainable tourism, which will take place next October and will be aimed at informing entrepreneurs about the free training service, Emprendeverde Itineraries. During this day, entrepreneurs who are part of this entrepreneurial ecosystem and who have participated in some of its trainings, will tell their experience and give visibility to their sustainable tourism projects.
