We are launching the educational project “The school travels the ocean with Natura and Marina” aimed at primary school teachers, as well as student teachers and other groups involved in school education in order to strengthen their capacities to achieve the involvement of this group in the enhancement of the marine Natura 2000 Network in the school curriculum. Specifically, the first online awareness sessions “Opportunities to green schools with the integration of marine Natura 2000 Network content in the school environment” have already been carried out to present this educational project in Melilla, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Education of Melilla.
34 teachers from 11 schools in the autonomous city of Melilla participated in this first online session and face-to-face training will soon be offered in each center. This action is aligned with the training strategy of the LIFE INTEMARES project and is part of the training plan for the public administrations responsible for the management of the marine Natura 2000 Network, which is coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and which has the support of the Recovery Plan. Transformation and Resilience (PRTR), financed by the European Union’s NextGeneration funds. “The school travels through the ocean with Natura y Marina” is an educational tool with a participatory methodological approach, which promotes the acquisition of skills and knowledge related to the conservation of the marine environment through research and play. Within this framework, a series of educational materials have been published, available on our website:

The largest network of protected areas
The Natura 2000 Network is the European Union’s main commitment to the conservation of biodiversity. The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) is working to achieve this goal, involving not only managers and agents involved but also citizens as a whole.
