Guillermina Yanguas highlights the work of women entrepreneurs in the environmental sector

The Director General of Environmental Quality and Assessment and the Natural Environment, Guillermina Yanguas, today highlighted the importance of the role of women entrepreneurs in the creation of new companies or lines of business linked to the environmental sector, which she said is “one of the economic sectors that demonstrate the best performance in turnover and job creation and have the greatest expectations for the future”.

Guillermina Yanguas made these statements at the inauguration of the “III Green Investment Forum: women entrepreneurs”, in which she was accompanied by the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Sonia Castañeda. These forums are organised by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, as part of the activities carried out by the Red emprendeverde, an initiative to support entrepreneurship in activities related to the green economy.

The Director General of Environmental Quality and Assessment and the Natural Environment has indicated that “resource efficiency is one of the main drivers of the competitiveness of companies”. For her part, Sonia Castañeda, stated that “the Emprendeverde Network already has nearly 7,000 members, of which more than 100 are investors and financiers, and of which a total of 70 have participated in the green investment forums organized by the Foundation”.

In addition to the holding of these investment forums, through the Emprendeverde Network, virtual showcases of green businesses are held, in order to enhance the visibility of new businesses linked to the environment before investors and other potential interested parties. The initiative already has more than 100 green businesses registered.

The objective of this III Green Investment Forum has been to channel investment towards companies linked to the environment and promoted by women. During the event, a selection of eight entrepreneurs presented their projects to investors. These are companies or new lines of business that are already invoicing or in the marketing phase, and that are looking for a round of financing in private capital of between one hundred thousand and five hundred thousand euros.

The celebration of the “III Green Investment Forum: women entrepreneurs” has been preceded by a pre-selection phase, in which 19 candidatures were pre-selected out of a total of 41. With the aim of optimizing their intervention and adjusting their proposals to the dynamics of an investment forum, the selected entrepreneurs entered a training process to prepare the presentation of their project to professional investors, and adapt their business plan to their interests.
