More than 700 companies, entities and organizations committed to the fight against climate change have so far joined the “One Million Commitments for the Climate” initiative, which started last June promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and ECODES, and which has also been joined by thousands of citizens.
“One Million Commitments for the Climate” has met its goal of adding 1,000,000 support against climate change, a challenge assumed in the presentation of this project by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, last June. These million commitments will be presented by Spain as a contribution to the Climate Change Summit to be held in Paris from 30 November to 11 December.
The headquarters of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) today hosted a meeting in which examples of the commitments of more than 30 representatives of agents, entities and citizens who have joined this initiative have been presented.
The president of AEMET, Miguel Ángel López, thanked everyone for their participation in this initiative to which the agency has also joined with its own commitments. AEMET has carried out the Climate Projections for the 21st century, a fundamental tool for observation, research and knowledge of the climate.
SPANISH CONTRIBUTION TO THE PARIS CLIMATE SUMMIT
The meeting, in which different organisations and citizens shared their commitments to the climate, was led by Sonia Castañeda, director of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, and Víctor Viñuales, president of the Ecology and Development Foundation (ECODES). Both the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and ECODES have thanked all the citizens and entities involved for their participation, as their collaboration has been key to adding this million commitments that Spain will present as a contribution to the Paris Summit.
Facing the fight against climate change is a common task for all, so for the Ministry it is essential to have “allies”, both citizens and companies are important in this work.
During the event held today, the entities, including large and medium-sized companies, associations, foundations, public administrations, presented some examples of the commitments they have adopted within the framework of this initiative or at an individual level. It also takes an active role in the fight against climate change. “One Million Commitments for the Climate” is therefore the starting point for possible new actions that will give Spanish society a voice in action against climate change.
ONE MILLION CLIMATE COMMITMENTS
On the unmillonporelclima.es website, you can register the commitments in favor of the climate, either individually or as an entity. On this page, a menu of commitments that reduce CO2 emissions is offered, with more than 80 potential actions to choose from, although each citizen can also leave their own, and thus expand this menu.
The website provides extensive information on the different commitments that can be assumed and registered and, most importantly, the CO2 emissions that are avoided with the implementation of these commitments.
Among all these actions that add up in the fight against climate change, there are various daily activities that are related to energy, water, mobility, consumption habits, recycling, the carbon footprint or the investments we make.
The project is also supported by social networks. On twitter: @compromisoclima, and with the hashtag: #PorElClima. And on Facebook: facebook.com/compromisoclima
