The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, through the Biodiversity Foundation, has announced the “Chiringuito Climate Award 2015” with the aim of recognising the work of the beachfront establishment most committed to climate change. Those interested can submit their candidacy until August 15.
This initiative is part of the “One Million Climate Commitments” project with which the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment expects to reach one million commitments for the next Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21), which will be held next December in Paris. With this project, the Ministry highlights the gestures of citizens, companies and institutions committed to the fight against climate change.
This award is aimed at all beach bars adhering to the Decalogue of Good Environmental Practices, of which 672 of these establishments along the Spanish coast are already part, and will reward a total of 1,500 euros to the establishment that has the most commitments. To this end, each beach bar will have its own access to the website www.unmillonporelclima.es where they can add their commitments and encourage their customers and suppliers to do so.
Each beach bar will mobilise its commitments by increasing its visibility in the way it deems appropriate, such as by placing posters or mobilising through its social networks.
The aim of this award, in addition to informing about the effects of climate change, is to assess its involvement in the achievement of one million climate commitments proposed as a collective challenge. The winner will be published on the website of the Biodiversity Foundation.
ONE MILLION CLIMATE COMMITMENTS
Through the www.unmillonporelclima.es website, anyone can easily make their public commitment to the climate, either individually or as an entity. The page offers a menu of commitments that reduce CO2 emissions, with more than 80 potential actions to choose from, although each person can also leave their own, and thus expand the menu.
The project is also supported by social networks. On twitter: @compromisoclima, and with the hashtag: #porelclima. And on Facebook: compromisoclima.
RESPONSIBLE BEACH BARS AWARDS
The “Responsible Beach Bars Awards” celebrate their fourth edition this year, to which 88 establishments have applied. These awards recognize the work carried out by the beach bars to improve their efficiency and relationship with the environment and in which 175 establishments have already participated, which have developed nearly 300 initiatives to preserve coastal areas.
These awards have distributed more than 53,000 euros in prizes among the 18 winners of previous editions. For this year, €9,000 will be distributed in the six prizes that will be awarded, including the “Special Mention of the Public”, for which ten finalists were selected and are being voted on through the Facebook page of the Biodiversity Foundation.
