This project proposes the establishment of a marine biodiversity sighting programme in the Canary Islands, with special emphasis on the areas of the Natura 2000 Network.
Social awareness and the development of research are one of the key objectives of this initiative. The “Poseidon Program” seeks to involve citizens and scientists to create a key tool for the conservation and management of marine protected areas.
The project is carried out through data collection thanks to the contribution of social agents. Among them will be citizens, mainly through recreational diving clubs.
The information collected shall be publicly available and easily accessible with the intention of promoting knowledge of the marine environment and awareness of its protection.
