The objective is the development of a support system for biodiversity conservation decision-making, with a new ecosystem approach, based on the identification and management of pressures affecting biodiversity.
The initiative thus contributes to the optimization of resources allocated to the conservation of natural heritage.
The scope of action will be 12 areas of the Natura 2000 Network, included in the Special Natural Protection Areas (ENPE), managed by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The specific objectives are:
- To offer managers an effective tool that allows them to know the state of conservation of the natural heritage and the causes that determine its changes, in order to be able to adopt conservation measures to ensure its conservation, as provided for in Law 42/2007 on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity.
- To identify the main pressures acting on species of community interest present in areas of the Natura 2000 Network in Catalonia and to propose appropriate management measures to reduce or prevent their impacts.
- Disseminate the tool and the results obtained through a website and other communication channels (press).
To this end, a series of activities will be developed:
- Define the main pressures related to the conservation status of species of Community interest and assess their impact.
- Relate species of community interest to the habitats they select to carry out their vital activity, based on the information available.
- Identify the main pressures related to different habitat types and establish indicators to assess their intensity.
- Establish the habitats present in each space.
- Assess the intensity of the pressures present in each space based on the descriptive indicators.
- Identify the main pressures affecting species of community interest in each area and summarise which of them affect a greater number of species.
- Detail the most appropriate management measures to minimise the impacts related to the pressures with the greatest impact on the species.
- Preparation of a website with the description of the project and its results.
- Writing articles and press releases.
