Organic livestock farming is one of the sectors of the agricultural economy with a hopeful future, given that it is a production model in line with the design of the new Community Agricultural Policy (CAP), which proposes models of sustainable management of natural resources for ecological growth based on the improvement of the rural economy. the maintenance of the social fabric in rural areas and the mitigation of climate change.

Organic livestock farming is one of the sectors of the agricultural economy with a hopeful future, given that it is a production model in line with the design of the new Community Agricultural Policy (CAP), which proposes models of sustainable management of natural resources for ecological growth based on the improvement of the rural economy. the maintenance of the social fabric in rural areas and the mitigation of climate change. The main purpose of the PASTOREA project is to promote the structuring of the organic livestock sector, helping to provide solutions to the crisis it is going through and to develop production and the market in the areas where the project is developed.

The specific objectives are:

  • To develop the potential of organic livestock farming, favoured by the cultural and social conditions and natural resources of the area.
  • To provide tools that allow us to know and use the unused resources of the territories and that demonstrate that organic livestock farming is a viable option for the future.
  • To promote the conversion to organic production and improve the self-sufficiency of farmers who apply this production model.
  • To promote the modernisation and structuring of the value chain in organic livestock farming, allowing the interrelation between the different agents and the creation of business initiatives and employment in this field.
  • Develop business initiatives linked to organic livestock farming, such as ecotourism and catering, promoting the reactivation of the economy at the local level.
  • To promote ecological initiatives in Natural Parks or Protected Areas, as a form of sustainable management of these territories, responding to problems such as forest fires and consolidating the population in rural areas.

The recipients of the project are:

  • Agricultural professionals: livestock breeders, shepherds, farmers, etc., in order to increase their self-sufficiency in the management and management of their farms and to make economic diversification activities known and to be developed.
  • Workers in SMEs and micro-SMEs, producer associations, cooperatives, etc., who wish to start their business initiative or diversify their activity towards organic production.
  • Media. They are mainly located in rural areas, although they are open to the participation of media from urban areas, so that the benefits of organic livestock farming and its products are disseminated.

The initiative will allow training to 135 recipients, although the project will reach a total of 1,845 workers. Another expected result is the conversion of 100 farms to organic production and the diversification of services into 50 companies in the organic production sector.
