The NGO Coopera is the promoter of the Lwiro Partial Ecotourism Program (PPEL), which is carried out in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Lwiro Partial Ecotourism Programme (PPEL) is part of a broader Community Conservation programme that Coopera has promoted, together with the Institut Congolaise de Conservation pour la Nature (ICCN) and the Centre de Recherche en Sciences Naturelles (CRSN), since 2010 in the Kabare Territory, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. in the province of South Kivu.

The PPEL has two tourist attractions: the Lwiro Integral Education Center (CIEL) and the Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation Center (CRPL). Both have a well-structured educational circuit designed for all audiences.

This project aims to improve the knowledge of Congolese society, foreign residents and tourists about the natural and cultural heritage of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. To this end, it is necessary to improve the facilities of some of the points of the two circuits, specifically, the Biodiversity room, the Art room, the Botanical Garden, the herpetology laboratory and the semi-free enclosure for chimpanzees confiscated from illegal trafficking of species.

Likewise, the contents of both visits will be improved and it will promote the awareness of several groups of society highly involved in the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, such as the Congolese regular army and children’s environmental groups in the area.
