The purpose of the initiative is for the tourism sector to contribute to the fight against global environmental change, through awareness-raising and training actions aimed at workers in the hotel sector.
The hotel sector employs the largest number of workers in the tourism industry. Tourism represents a critical economic strategy for many cities, regions and countries around the world. However, it is also one of the main drivers of global environmental change and can have harmful effects on a number of critical environmental vectors, such as energy resources, water, biodiversity and land use.
This project is aimed at the different professional profiles that directly occupy the hotel sector, to achieve results in the short and medium term. The awareness and training that will be carried out in the project is designed with differentiated contents and objectives, depending on the area and scope of work:
- Directorate-management.
- Maintenance.
- Administration, catering, cleaning and other services staff.
The initiative focuses its activities on hotel facilities, as they have the highest percentage of employed workers compared to the tourism industry as a whole. In addition, it is in these facilities where the introduction of measures to minimise environmental and social impacts, for energy and water saving and efficiency, can be easily applied by the workers of the different areas.
