The aim is to convey the value of land stewardship to the parties involved in the conservation of the territory and its biodiversity at European level, especially in the western Mediterranean arc, thus promoting its use and application.

The initiative proposes the co-financing of part of the actions of the project “LANDLIFE: promoting land stewardship as a conservation tool in the western Mediterranean arc”, a project awarded to the Xarxa de Custòdia del Territori by the European Commission in 2011.

More specifically, the purpose is to finance actions for the dissemination and communication of land stewardship at European level, provided for in the LANDLIFE project. These actions would be: a study of the development and application of land stewardship in the western European Mediterranean arc and the realization of a panel of indicators to assess the state of land stewardship in the different participating regions.

Land stewardship is a strategy to involve land owners and users in the conservation and good use of the resources and natural, cultural and landscape values of the territory. It takes the form of voluntary agreements between landowners and land conservation entities (custodial entities) in order to maintain and recover the natural and landscape environment.

The specific objectives of the initiative include:

• Manage the project through effective and integrated technical, financial and administrative coordination.
• To facilitate knowledge and the exchange of experiences between the actors involved in land stewardship at European level.
• To obtain information, data and baseline analysis of the state of land stewardship at European level.
