This initiative seeks to promote the use of biodegradable fishing nets that ensure the survival of the marine environment.
This initiative seeks to promote the use of biodegradable fishing nets that ensure the survival of the marine environment.
Thus, by training netters in the use of this type of materials to manufacture nets and carrying out awareness-raising measures in the fishing sector, it is intended that ghost fishing disappears or, at least, decreases significantly, through the use of innovative measures to preserve the marine environment.
At the same time, it is also intended to provide the sector with new avenues for growth, since this type of net can be used both at sea and in aquaculture and fish farming.
In the current situation, in which ghost fishing and mass fishing are depleting resources, the creation of new work options in accordance with the environment is essential to prevent the disappearance of the fishing sector. Although sea resources are decreasing, fish consumption is increasing, so it is the sector that has to bet on new development measures.
The recipients of the project are:
- Netters, self-employed workers who contribute to the Special Regime for the Sea, the first recipients as they are responsible for the creation of fishing nets.
- All agents related to the fishing sector, workers or entrepreneurs.
- Consumers are the key recipients, since if they are aware they will be the ones who will demand that the sector invest in innovation and sustainable development.
